Early Intervention
Program
This is a program for adolescents who are experimenting with
alcohol and/or other drugs and also for those who have begun
to use substances on a regular basis.
The Early
Intervention Program is a six-week program that runs
one night a week for a two-hour length of time. Parents
are expected to attend week one and week six.
Topics presented
and discussed are:
- use, abuse, and addiction (the progression)
- reasons for use/healthy and unhealthy coping
skills
- consequences of use/high risk behavior
- myths and facts of effects of different drugs
- refusal skills - how to cope with peer pressure
- dealing with feelings and emotions
- self-esteem/goals
